A little bit of Faith is a lot

The gospel of Matthew tells us that one night, the disciples were out in the boat and Jesus came to them walking on the water.  “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Some read this and see Peter’s failure—he doubted and began to sink.  But don’t miss the bigger picture: He also was the only one who got out of the boat and walked on water.  Be encouraged by Peter: even a “little faith” is a lot.

Now for the Friday Funnies:

A man is late for an important meeting, but he can’t find a place to park his car. In desperation, he begins to pray. “Please Lord, if you help me find a parking space right now, I promise to go to church every Sunday, to help the needy, and to never lie again!” A moment later, he sees a beautiful empty spot right next to the entrance and immediately says to God, “Never mind. Found one!”

Have a wonderful day.
