Think of something you do well.
Quietly -to yourself
I’ll wait.
Did you think of a talent or hobby that you spend time doing or practicing or performing? Did you think of a competition?
The word well describes the quality of that something I just asked you to think about – well is an adverb that means correctly, right, in a good way.
I would wager a guess that you thought of things like drawing, dancing, studying, or playing a sport, playing an instrument, or even doing school well.
Doing something well is a matter of practice, yes, but even more so, doing something well starts with the disposition of the heart – doing something well is not a promise of getting first place or even a place or prize at all. In fact, to compete for a prize, you have to commit to doing well, then practice, and then earn a prize and doing something well is its own good – its own reward.
There is one thing we can all do well – despite our natural abilities and interests in particular hobbies – and it is something we will all have to practice – despite how old we are. We can all be examples of it and help those around us to do it. This something takes the fortitude to overcome difficulty, the ability to self-govern (no one can do this thing for you), the posture of justice so that you act fairly and without manipulation of others for personal gain, the charity to think of how you can serve others all while doing this yourself, and the prudence to see the good and attain the good all while acknowledging and rejecting all falsities.
So, Columbus Classical Academy –
Finish well.
Have a wonderful day.
