Hope comes via the hard way

So, genuine Hope is a good thing…but how can we have it?  Aquinas reminds us that it comes from God…but how does He give it?  Does He just pass out Hope like a candy bar at Halloween?

In Romans 5, Paul reveals the answer…even if we don’t like it very much. He says:

[  ] we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope….”

The hard way is the only path to endurance, character, and ultimately Hope.  This is why the Honor Code instructs us to have joy in the face of difficulty.

We recite it every day…but do you believe it?  I hope so.

Have a wonderful day.
