Lenin, Lies, and the Gospel of Luke: The Truth Will Set You Free

Vladimir Lenin was the founder of communist Russia and the Soviet Union.  He used lies about history to justify the evils of communism, and even once declared that “A lie told often enough becomes the truth.”  Lenin and his government eliminated history they didn’t like from textbooks, they took down monuments to historical figures they disagreed with, and they changed public holidays to celebrate only those events that helped keep them in power.  Eventually, they even removed history as a subject from schools for a while and made it illegal for anyone to tell or write about history that did not agree with their false version.

Of course, the biggest lie that Lenin and the Soviets told the people was that there is no God.  He even acknowledged that “Our program necessarily includes the propaganda of atheism.”  In other words, “my plan only works if we dupe people into believing that God does not exist.”

Built on lies about God and history, the Soviet Union starved, murdered, and enslaved millions of people for decades.

The gospel writer, Luke, shows us a picture of true history.  His biblical account of the life of Christ begins with these lines:

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.

Honest history gives knowledge and certainty to those who seek the truth; lies about history give power and control to those who only want to suppress it.

When you study history, imitate Luke: Follow all things closely; write an orderly account.  Then, as Jesus himself said, “you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Have a wonderful day.
